Why Lincoln Park High School?

Competition for Selective Enrollment spots has become fierce. With an excess of 16,000 applications for 3,200 spots at the selective enrollment schools, many students will not make the cut. Starting in 5th and 6th grade, unnecessary and excessive stress is being put on these young students to outperform their peers. Selective enrollment is dependent on testing and may not be appropriate for all students. Students should be able to attend their neighborhood high school and Lincoln Park is an an excellent choice. With outstanding leadership, a strong faculty, and one of the most academically challenging programs in Illinois, LPHS should be the #1 choice for our neighborhood families, and best of all...it is in the neighborhood.

Lincoln Park High School's International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme is one of the longest standing IB Diploma Programmes in the country, and now your child does not need to be in the Diploma Programme to get that same world class education that for years has only been available to those in the Diploma Programme. Now, ALL students who enter Lincoln Park are considered participants in the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (IB-MYP). Some 9th and 10th graders are also members of the IB Preparatory Diploma Programme (PDP). PDP students move into the IB Diploma Programme in junior and senior year. If qualified (based on success in requisite courses), other students can enter the PDP at the end of Freshman year(grade 9) or at the end of Sophomore year (grade 10). Juniors and seniors may also elect to take ”stand-alone” IB classes. Others may elect to participate in the new International Baccalaureate Career-related Programme (IBCP) in Art, Music or ROTC.

WHAT IS SO GREAT ABOUT AN IB EDUCATION?*
The International Baccalaureate® (IB) aims to do more than other curricula by developing inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who are motivated to succeed. We hope our students will help to build a better world through intercultural understanding and respect.  More than 50% of IB World Schools are state-funded. An IB education aims to transform students and schools as they learn, through dynamic cycles of inquiry, action and reflection.  Teachers enable and support students as they develop the approaches to learning they need – for both academic and personal success.

The IB is different from other curricula because it:
-encourages students to think critically and challenge what they are told
-is independent of governments and national systems, and therefore able to incorporate best practice from a range            of international frameworks and curricula
-encourages students to consider both their local and international environment.

The International Baccalaureate® (IB) learner profile describes a broad range of human capacities and responsibilities that go beyond academic success. They imply a commitment to help all members of the school community learn to respect themselves, others and the world around them.  Each of the IB's programmes is committed to the development of students according to the IB learner profile.

The profile aims to develop learners who are:

  • Inquirers
  • Knowledgeable
  • Thinkers
  • Communicators
  • Principled
  • Open-minded
  • Caring
  • Risk-takers
  • Balanced
  • Reflective

Education in International Baccalaureate® (IB) World Schools:

  • centers on learners
  • develops effective approaches to teaching and learning
  • works within global contexts, helping students understand different languages and cultures
  • explores significant content, developing disciplinary and interdisciplinary understanding that meets rigorous international standards.
